Could Have Been

Could Have Been

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

Like an untouched plate of ice cream
there she sat
melting in the heat of the day
sunlight bouncing and beckoning her
willing her to embark on the long road
between silence and expression
but the sun finally set itself
the moon entered stage left
passing
time
destroys
so much
now all that remained was a tilted vision
of what once could have been ice cream
adorning the ungrateful asphalt of life

Wow Lydia - you transported me here. So many people have seen their 'ice-cream' suffer the same fate and I am sure I would have cried my lamps out after such a spill.

"...the moon entered stage left..." - excellent !

great metaphorical lament here my talented friend.
Bravo.

A most interesting metaphor in a sad and emotional reflective piece Lydi. You're back!

Was there ever any doubt? Can't keep a poet away, can you? :) Thanks, John. Lydi**
