In My Life

In My Life

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

Remembering a friend

"

artwork "Rainbow" by Eria Nsubuga

Today

thoughts of you pressed against my window

then chased me into a rainbow

from there I watched

buttery sunlight lick the clouds away

and listened as the breeze whispered your name

I’m sure I smelled your cologne

but it might have just been my imagination

an imagination that these days

whistles whimsically

          remembering

yes, I’m writing elegies

but still smiling

because you were in my life

The opening is truly beautiful Lydia, the "pressed against my window" phrase brought a lump to my throat - and a smile grew in tandem with the writers as I reached the end because It is indeed wonderful to feel such a smile, through the pain, when it is brought on by memories.
Yes, this resonated with me and Im sure with anyone who reads it.
Thank you for sharing this Lydia.
God Bless my friend.

"from there I watched

So much beauty packed into the lines Lydi. The entire thought behind the poem is beautiful because it is a very difficult thing for many to remember a past love or a friend, a bygone era, with such fondness and beauty. And that's what makes this poem so special for me....

"yes, I’m writing elegies
but still smiling
because you were in my life"

Amazing and awesome.

this has its sadness. but yes, it also celebrates a life as well..

that aftermath of cologne, that feeling that he is still touching you in some way.

We are destined to carry them with us, for our hearts will not allow us to forget. I have often thought I caught a scent of my sister at times, then realized perhaps, it was her way of telling me, she's here.

Our friends are the extension of us, therefore they are the bookmarks of our life. I felt your heart in your every line, Lydi...

A most beautiful eulogy, as opposed to an elegy, to love you have felt for one in your lifetime Lydi.
