i'll miss you

i'll miss you

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

i try to digest the moment

     soft and silent

but volatile shadows held up by marble bookends

            grab my attention

like yellowed newspapers with words from another time and place

their headlines cannot be swept away easily

all the mundane mondays

          wistful wednesdays

                thoughtless thursdays

                     sanguine saturdays

gang up on me

i taste the air of grief

but this time it is different

                      almost surrealistic

humming “sunday will never be the same”

salty emotions proliferate

i ask the unanswerable

you left your pain behind and now it haunts us

hey, you lived and died as you wanted

but there is little comfort in that

trying to transmit my emotions through space

      i’ll miss you

but you knew that

the feeling of loss in this piece is so very palpable.

i was drawn in by the title because i know what it's like to lose someone who has been so close that he or she is almost a part of us....no, who IS a part of us.

how ironic that the beauty and majesty of your piece is so exquisitely juxtaposed to the pain of the loss.

a hauntingly beautiful write...

Missing a face and words of a friend leave us wishing we had more time with. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

You are welcome Lydia.
Yes indeed, death is a selfish, cruel thief and cares not one iota of the heartache and anguish it leaves behind as it robs us so indiscriminately of those close to us !

Deeply soul searching and emotive Lydia... A finely penned, powerful piece of poetry which I thoroughly enjoyed reading !!

Thank you, my friend. While I mourn, words are my only outlet. I appreciate you. Lydi**
oh the grief and the missing...when someone leaves us, it is never the same.

love the alliteration and the reference to Spanky and Our Gang...
but again sometimes better in the long run when someone is no longer suffering....yet we still suffer the loss greatly.

beautiful metaphorical poem, and the imagery increases the pain.
