mature rainbows

mature rainbows

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

the driving rain beckons me with a certain charisma
even though i'm way past
the splashing-in-puddles stage of life
a crack in the window allows an epiphany to seep in
              sensible shoes
scuffed with lots of experience aren’t as sexy
as the high heels now living in the back of my closet
but they won’t pinch my toes
they are the pot of gold at the end of my rainbow

i find myself smiling
while mature rainbows
nod their understanding heads
looking oh so appealing
through afternoon clouds

Those high-heel times were certainly glory days; the accompanying slink, wiggle and bounce intriguing to most men.
But sensible shoes always win out--in the same way that sensible guys eventually overtake the bad boys.
To this bad boy's lifelong disappointment.
Entertaining read, Lydi!

You too Lydi! Happy Valentine's Day!
Those oh, so sensible shoes, simply mask the desire within.

It doesn't disappear with age, but simply lies in waiting with those high heels in the back of the closet.

Loved this. Beccy.

Every gal needs lots of shoes~variety is the essence.
But, high heels stop me, too.
mature is the answer on my feet and appealing to my feeling.
You capture the wonderful image of them here.

You are welcome! :)
I guess every woman have them or keep them for rainy days or remembrances of those golden pot days. This is soooo good Lydia with a sense of nostalgic humor. Excellent...:).....

dear Lydi... I have a pair of white leather
High heels in my closet I bought a few

experience! Your poetry is wrapped
in delicious dreams of poetic rapture.

"Scuffed with experience" now there is a poetic line, Pat! Thank you so much. Lydi**

At 5'11", you wouldn't think I'd wear heels...oh, girl, can we talk! Oh, the pain we endured for fashion. I adore what you've done here, Lydi. But I can't believe you're past the stage of "splashing-in-the-puddles!! If only we were geographically closer...I'd change your mind!

Perhaps, they are "living in the back of the closet"...but they're worth the stories they conjure up, every time we slip into them. Bless you, girl!

Funny thing...I have a station for my phone where it sits and charges...its a high heel shoe, and its red. I'll take a photo of it and post it one day on here for you to see. ; )

Wow, I want those shoes.....LOL But, I would be falling over in the mud puddles and miss the mature rainbows that don't have the pot of gold waiting at the end, but a big cauldron of "life experience, memories, wonderful yesterdays" in it! The high heels were nice while they were the "shoe for the day" but like everything else, at some point they just go out of fashion.
Love the images you paint! For me they just might include a pair of very comfortable bedroom shoes -LOL

Oh yes, and I love your avatar!!
