mature rainbows

mature rainbows

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

the driving rain beckons me with a certain charisma
even though i'm way past
the splashing-in-puddles stage of life
a crack in the window allows an epiphany to seep in
              sensible shoes
scuffed with lots of experience aren’t as sexy
as the high heels now living in the back of my closet
but they won’t pinch my toes
they are the pot of gold at the end of my rainbow

i find myself smiling
while mature rainbows
nod their understanding heads
looking oh so appealing
through afternoon clouds

Those high-heel times were certainly glory days; the accompanying slink, wiggle and bounce intriguing to most men.
But sensible shoes always win out--in the same way that sensible guys eventually overtake the bad boys.
To this bad boy's lifelong disappointment.
Entertaining read, Lydi!

Someday after ten years i will be in the same days.I know heels hurt but they are a girl's best friend. In the same was we are intrigued by bad boys. But good guys win in long run :p... First off, I want those shoes!! As for the poem, it's lovely, just a shade wistful and I love the 'mature rainbow' line. Oh, and don't you dare write off those high heels just yet. T

Childish rainbow vs mature rainbow? lol
Experiences make one mature. And as we look back to the past, we will only smile reminiscing how we come into such beautiful view.

Well-done!

Thank you very much, Poppy. Lydi**
are there any other kind of rainbow??? oh wait... there are those that make you leap into the abyss, float on sky-high daydreams, kiss a dragon and the most immature of all, those rainbows that make you fall in love... er.. ok so this is NOT what you are saying, but Lydi, maybe "sensible shoes" have replaced those sky high heels (red of course), but you my dear friend have never stopped splashing-in-puddles, even as you "matured"... come on Lydi, take my hand, I see some puddles to jump up and down in... ;0) and they say we are getting old!! HA...

ps, you can wear your sensible shoes... you know I could have just said, getting old sucks and make you sensible, but.... rainbows are calling Lydi!!! curt

Danger, adventure? Hell, I better get my black leather jacket out of storage! LOL
Such beautiful reflections of a world as it transforms before our very eyes... day by day.. year by year... into the colors of a rainbow... a different kind of magic from a child's eyes.
