My Soft Place

My Soft Place

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by Emma Uber

You are my soft place to land
a spirited buoyant oasis
to warm my lukewarm spunk

Bouncing down
the rutted highway of life
I stand on tiptoe
to see the love in your eyes
and it seems you are always there
dancing me out of the humdrum
a bolt of satin unwinding itself
around my heart...

in your poetry and your life, I don't see any "lukewarmness", nope, not one ounce.. and to have someone that is like a "bolt of satin unwinding itself around my heart", well, how could there even be a whisper of "humdrum"??? I can see you two dancing Lydi... and I think that is oh so "nice", the poem too!! ;0)

Thanks so much, Tiana. You have a good weekend too. Lydi**
If I have one characteristic, it's spunk! I think it's the german in me.

You write with such a plethora of imagination and metaphors, Lydi. It's a strong suit, and you wear it well!

:) May it ever be so!
I see many poets on this site, they write about many things, current, political, religious, fantasy.. heck even most pour emotion till the page contains no more. But there is very few poets who do all this naturally and you are one of them miss Lydia Shutter. For example I cannot write about love now a days, its not that I lack or fail to empathize with the feeling but I just cannot make it feel natural, make it flow like this beautiful piece. Make the connection with the reader, but when I read a poem of yours such as this one, I am immediately connected, swept of my feet and feel feathers flutter around my heart. I can actually feel the warmth cover my body, the cheeks gravitate with blush and I relate to your words like a person whispering sweet words in my ear. Amazing poem, it moves me.

I am touched by this lovely review, Keegan. Thank you so much. Lydi**
dear Lord Lydia - spunk doesnt translate too gently to Europeans - I need to lie down .... ;p

Besides the joking around though - I loved the interdependence in this write - the significant others voice is absent but they are living in the voice of the writer - "dancing me out of the humdrum" says it all
