It’s
the calm before the storm
decimals of doubt swim through
my murky psyche
as the teal and peach
of morning clouds
are absorbed by weary pores
A balmy breeze skims
the surface of my skin
and for a moment I believe
Superman will foil
Ernesto’s evil plot Ah,
but the meteorologists
are in cahoots with him
and soon I am shedding
layers of illusion - -
no, in the wee hours of Tuesday morning
I know this will not be paradise
I read somewhere many years ago - like twenty - that the two hardest places in the world to predict weather for were Japan, and Cape Breton, the part of Nova Scotia that I'm from...I have no idea if it's still true given how much the planet has changed, and I'm too lazy to look it up to check, but I believe it, and relate to it...this is a different side of you that is a fine testament to the diversity of your writing...we all know the power of your erotic writing, but your soul-searching skills are just as profound, assuming I'm not reading too deeply into this...but I do have a weather obsession, and I always find myself looking beyond the surface when I read a weather-themed poem, and this one certainly put me in reflective mode...still, the 'Superman' motif adds a bit of light to the mood, and the first stanza really had me from the start...love the decimals of doubt and the weary pores...fine work as always my friend :)

Oh, yes, I do like to write in the romantic steamy genre, but sometimes poetry is what gets me through a bad day....and this is an example of it. I appreciate your review so much. Lydi**

I hear you on all counts Lydi...always a pleasure :)
how you tease the senses with this one.. the mind with imagery, the heart with emotion, and the soul with meaning... you write with such elegance and charm, it doesn't matter the subject, I get lost in the magic of your phrasing.. this one still has that wit and imagination as well.. but I am lost in the vivid pictures and emotion... well done ma'am... I'm gonna shed that doubt too, let the breeze of hope wash over me... for that is what I would hope for the speaker in this piece... ((hugs)) to you and TGIF... as always, it is such a pleasure to read your pieces...

indeed they do not... you're quite welcome, and enjoy it I surely did:)
It is true certain weather patterns affect on our psyche. We tend to blame even take it out on the meteorologist(lol). No one wants their paradise spoiled even for a moment...Excellent...:)...........
Oh, I've been waiting on this one Lydikey, perfectly pen'd for gloomy Tuesday fare, 'shedding layers of illusions' I told you it was tepid. ;) Love the Superman foil....

I knew you'd rise to the occasion, and of course you did it with your own special flair! :)
No matter where we live, we complain about the weather... when I was in Fla in August, it was pretty nice, the way tropics usually are, hot, humid with the late afternoon thunderstorm. I think there was only one day that was "dreary"... having said this, I would swap the cold and snow for the "dreary", but warmth of Fla... except for the hurricanes, you can keep them.. and I was meaning to talk to you about "Sandy", why did you think we up "north" would like your hurricanes??? I understand your generous heart and wanting to share, but SANDY!!?? LOL.. I'm having fun with your wonderful poem Lydi, and you know Superman loses them sometimes. Ernesto must have had his kryptonite hammer or something... but and this is the most wonderful of buts: you Lydi never write "dreary" poems, your pen is always filled with "paradise"... I saw sunshine peeking out of each word and you know I have no illusions.. er... ;0) at least not when it comes to your poetry.. now if we talk "joisey girls"... ohno!!

As far as Sandy goes, well, you know I like to share. After all, we had an over abundance of hurricanes. You had not had the "pleasure"....:) It truly has been a dreary day here. Gray since the minute I opened my eyes. The rain will just not stop. However, still far better than a hurricane. Lydi**

and snow... sleet and ice too.. if your like me, its a triple dose of ibuprofen day...
Oh how gloomy it is when that beautiful southern sunshine plays hide and seek with Mr. Dreary! You describe it so vividly he should be absolutely ashamed of himself and send the light out to show who's boss!
Love this Lydi!! But, I do love the rain and wind and serenity of a dreary day.....after all I was born near midnight LOL

Ha count yourself lucky Lydi you don't have English gloom to contend with. A great expression of a grey day!
