Not Paradise

Not Paradise

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

A gray rainy Tuesday.....

"

It’s the calm before the storm
decimals of doubt swim through
my murky psyche
as the teal and peach
of morning clouds
are absorbed by weary pores

A balmy breeze skims
the surface of my skin
and for a moment I believe
Superman will foil
Ernesto’s evil plot

Ah, but the meteorologists
are in cahoots with him

and soon I am shedding
layers of illusion - -
no, in the wee hours of Tuesday morning
I know this will not be paradise

I read somewhere many years ago - like twenty - that the two hardest places in the world to predict weather for were Japan, and Cape Breton, the part of Nova Scotia that I'm from...I have no idea if it's still true given how much the planet has changed, and I'm too lazy to look it up to check, but I believe it, and relate to it...this is a different side of you that is a fine testament to the diversity of your writing...we all know the power of your erotic writing, but your soul-searching skills are just as profound, assuming I'm not reading too deeply into this...but I do have a weather obsession, and I always find myself looking beyond the surface when I read a weather-themed poem, and this one certainly put me in reflective mode...still, the 'Superman' motif adds a bit of light to the mood, and the first stanza really had me from the start...love the decimals of doubt and the weary pores...fine work as always my friend :)

This was quite alluring. I enjoy the lovely wordplay and the blur mood that seems to appear. Kudos! :)

Thank you Jeannette. Lydi**
those beautiful sunrises that hint at calm, peaceful days....illusions of what is to come shattered by reality, and rain clouds that burst the bubble of the sun in our lives.

I wonder how many layers must be removed before we can see past our illusions?
I have been here... I have been wishing for the reality to be brighter and the forecast to give me the joy I crave.
I is my conviction we can be the superhuman influence of "paradise" in the environment of our lives. We can make paradise the reality in our sphere of consciousness. It is what I aspire to do one day in a sustainable fashion.
After all, even paradise needs the cool shadows of night and the soothing nourishment of a dreary day...

A great capture of the lonely hours of pre-dawn.
I do love how your words paint a canvas full of colors in my mind.

I like the use of language and the places and visions create by the poem. I like the use of nature and how you led to the true ending.

I stood and watched the storm come and go being station on both coastlines. The quiet is scary. Animals are wiser than man. Escape to safe place before the great storms. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
