Tepid

Tepid

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

Oh the wonders of a bubble bath!

"

Artwork by Sophie Schubakoff

Twas a bit of a jarring juxtaposition
nearly perfect

           certainly not virtuous
ripples of you

undulated across the surface of my skin
a scuttlebutt of delicious gossip
in which I aspired to be the leading lady

Your name escaped my moistened lips
as the bubbles burst
but by then I felt certain
the bath water would never feel tepid

oh my goodness girl!! I didn't know whether to giggle with delight or play with the bubbles and ripples... wheeeew.... "scuttlebutt of delicious gossip" has to be one of the most amusing, clever, and creative phrases I have had the pleasure of reading.. that is a masterpiece in and of itself... what a slow sensual teasing that has just enough playfulness in it... I really enjoyed this one... I am almost certain that the mirror is definitely fogged up in there:)

Ah, a sensual and teasing bath laden with bubbles ready to burst but not without a rippling of delight in which you fancy yourself to be the leading lady - love the phrase "scuttlebutt of delicious gossip" - just makes the bath interlude even more saucy!! The water might be tepid but the bath is "HOT"!!

Love it and the image is especially perfect for your words!!

Elegant and playful - Its not even "naughty" - just wonderfully penned. I want to go out and buy a box of Mr Bubble but I'm not sure the husband and I would both fit in the tub.

:) Thank you, Tammy. Love the idea of Mr. Bubble! :) Lydi**
Time for a big goofy grin...you had me at 'jarring juxtaposition' my friend...and 'nearly' perfect...I love that...where's the fun in perfection after all? There has to be some leeway for experimentation...this poem has that effect too...there's a lot of leeway here...you establish a setting then you exit ever so subtly, leaving the reader (the male one anyway) with a most sultry mental picture and a prickled imagination...you are definitely a leading lady in the poetic realm of sensuality...well done Lydi :)

As you should :) Always a pleasure my friend.
I am of heavy personality and a heavy presence and what guided me are the way the words are put together to create meaning. I found it very clever. Defining that two things will have to be put together to cause a contrasting effect sometimes gets lost. So then it threw me one way with "nealry perfect" and then the opposite way "certainly not virtous". As well as the language then is the image painted with liquidity of forms and unity in sensuality and musicality. Only to leave me with again a very imaginative thought of bubbles elevated in memories of the moment.

Imaginative thinking

Thankyou

This was playful Lydi. A bit of spice on my Sunday night in as the rain pours outside. Nicely done my dear.
