A Poem by Lydia Shutter

when the world is overwhelming
and the horizon is suddenly dark
you are the poem i read
your waterfalls of emotion drench me
i open my mind to a kaleidoscope of color
an ever-changing palette of hues
like colonizing a new country
words build new meanings
then take up residence in my psyche
each one like a kiss on my cheek
then my neck
and beyond
each one thrilling me just a little more
till the world is not so bad after all
and i’m hungry to take a bite out of my day
you need to know this
you are the poem I read

if you think it might be about you....then it is!

Hi Lydia, I just joined and posted today, and all because of you! I was seaarching the sites and when I came here and read this poem, it blew me away. Your writing is so very good, and I love your use of similes and metaphors, amazing. I read more and found all of them so wonderful.

I don't know if you have time to help me a bit, but I do have an important question. I don't know how to go about enlarging my picture to put above my poem, and then have a border connecting the two. I asked in two places of the Forum, but it looks as if they don't answer much there.

Being new, if you have any suggestions that could help me, I sure would appreciate! I'm so glad I came here and found you. I'm getting more excited to write more now after reading you. Thanks so much!

Hugs,
ArtGal (Sharon)

Oh well. Enjoy tomorrow if you are able to.
A wholesome friendship whether purely platonic, physical or a bit a both, does indeed reinvigorate the soul and our general well-being, as the world, foibles et all, always seems a better place to be in with that special person around!

A fine, holistic write, effervescent with creative colours and kindred spirit!

dear Lydi.... like the hands on an
hour glass... your poetry teases my day...
slowly moving toward evening where we
hear the chimes of evening's love songs.
Words changing hues... the Blue Danube...
or the soft windmills in a meadow of
tulips.... your poetry is worth the dream.

It was written really well, I like the metaphors and all the color it presents to my mind. Very good write, and keep up the good work! Can't wait to read more poems soon. I just got a little confused on the stanzas, just wondering if they were stanzas or not. But nice write! I loved the way you proposed all the color and all the beauty. Keep on writing, and make sure to be on the look out for uses of other things you could use in your writes, like I see you've already done, because that can help a lot, too!

A beautiful poem for the writer and the reader. Both need each other. I tell the young writers. Read, read and read some more. We can learn from each other. I like the open ending. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

You are welcome Lydia. Always a pleasure to read your poetry.
Another beautiful write from you, Lydi, and the format is really complimentary to the poem. That last little line wraps it up neatly.

A wonderful and amazing connection indeed that you have, we have for poetry and its thrills. The suddenly dark becomes drenched in light and the suddenly touching becomes a waterfall of the psyche. Your poetry does magical things to us as we are transformed within. Excellent...:)...............
