Tunes So Familiar

Tunes So Familiar

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

Just a bit of reflection

"

It’s true you know
time hungrily ate my youth
devoured the buffet of opportunity
in a few gluttonous gulps
savoring each scrumptious morsel
           and now
in a frenzy of recollection
I pay time’s padded bill
by allowing iterations of semi victories
and tenuous triumphs
to join hands
with doubtful defeats
they hum tunes so familiar
lulling me into sweet reverie
oh, the fantasia of it all!
what’s a girl to do?
Nothing but raise a glass
to the pluperfect past tense
and to what promises to be a sweet future
                     L’chaim!

I agree with the logic of the poem. Our youth stole by time leave us with a drink and new promises to live by. Thank you kind friend for the amazing poetry.

L'chaim indeed.
Time's bill is so freaking padded. Why?
It's those familier tunes that keep the bubble level.
Enjoyed this a lot. I feel the need to raise a glass.
Well done

"... they hum tunes so familiar lulling me into sweet reverie...". A fine blend of melancholy and wisdom. You have a way of touching chords in this reader that few others have. Kudos. ~Jim

Cheers on that my friend... life is just maturing as a fine wine, and time, what's time? when we still feel so young, and youth, is still remembered... I enjoyed this beautiful piece of wisdom! :) have missed reading you... I know again why! :D

Acceptance, understanding, re-living and letting go, all in a finely executed poem.

A fine upbeat poem of reflective, self-acceptance and indeed as they say, hindsight is a wonderful thing, and perhaps certain things may have been done differently, but hey ' what the heck' , life' s been good and there's much more still to look forward too.....So bring it on !!!

A great optimistic attitude, Tom! Thanks for your review. Lydi**
love the references to the pluperfect - and your use of extended metaphor in the first verse. A clever poem, serious content but a frivolity survives. 'Oh the fantasia of it all/ what's a girl to do?' It's also fair, a healthy, balanced outlook.

The tune is familiar as it is played over, and over, and over again until we want to push that particular piece to the bottom of the pile. It is good when instead of placing it away from us we embrace it is a good tune and accept it for what it is as we pick out the best parts and understand "what is, is". Ah yes, the future and all it holds even for a tired piece of music.
We take the good with the bad, accept who we are, do what we can to improve and move on! And I'll consider myself lucky to even realize I experience that frenzy of recollection.....LOL

:) thanks, sheila....yes, if you have your memories, you are ahead of a lot of other folks. Lydi**
I feel time passing more quickly the older I get...humming along with your tune. Great word 'pluperfect', think that's the first time I've read it in a poem, figures it'd be yours Lydikey! Salute!
