I Wonder

I Wonder

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

Do you ever wonder?

"

Artwork by Catherine Abel

I wrote it on the napkin

the poem I knew would be goodbye

I mean what was I to do?

You were late

                   again

and I just couldn’t do it anymore

make believe it was okay for you to waste my time

and trample my emotions

I couldn’t pretend

I heard music in the pregnant pauses

not anymore

so I wrote it on the napkin

then kissed the flip side

and the rest should have been history

but even now I wonder

I like this from the standpoint of an amazing woman that would wonder what might have been. So often, I think we look back to a romantic moment....that wasn't as romantic as our romantic heart wanted it to be! I relate, I know I have that little pile of napkins and what ifs and coulda beens. You are a great lady.. still.

We all have what might have been but few can express the secret thoughts about them so well.

Thanks again, Michael. You flatter me...what would "No Tale Tom" say? LOL
i would have hoped it would have been a stained napkin...he wasn't worth a clean one...

sometimes we have to stop pretending when we are taken for granted for so long...but then, even if we get out of a relationship for good reason...we will always wonder, "what if?"

i love this poem, and am really missing you around here Lydi.

I wonder how I missed this one ! I do think that all goodbyes, even those that seem so necessary at the time, leave little lingering questions. Excellent write. ~Jim

I could visualize the whole scenario in my head...a scene right out of the movie of Life! Yes, it's often the 'what-could-have-been's that make life complicated. this is so elegantly written, my friend. Beautiful!

Thank you for this great review, Sanober. Lydi**
Having recently returned to paper and pen for a heartbeat or two, and jotting all over napkins in the process, this really resonated with me. I agree with the featured review, it is the fact that your poetry touches so many that makes it so well read.
