They Understand

They Understand

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

Art by Big Bee courtesy of etsy.com

Snuffed out by shadows

the sun retreats to parts unknown

the breeze whispers a calm acceptance

of what just is

contrived formulations seem to emanate

even from the innocent buttercups

seemingly incoherent and disjointed rantings

are exhaled willy nilly by prickly cacti

I watch the scene nodding my head

yes, they understand

It's hard to put into words, but I relate to this very deeply. I need to listen to the breeze more often and accept what is, and try to steer clear of the disjointed rantings that many people have had to endure from me in the past. Yet there are elements of positivity that break through, the notion of understanding, even if it's from our environmental surroundings...it's not like you can always count on people for that understanding anyway haha Thankfully I find exceptions among my friends here. Nicely done Lydi :)

Your poem really hit home for me this evening Lydi.
the breeze whispers a calm acceptance
of what just is
It can be difficult to accept what is, but sometimes we must accept it - there is no other way...

Snuffed out by shadows
the sun retreats to parts unknown

I'm hoping for sunshine tomrrow..,

Thanks so much, Josh. Lydi**
dear Lydi... Prickly cacti is tempered by the
Innocent buttercups.... much like our Nation
striving to survive the prickly situations
around the world. As shadows snuff out the
sun... we rest to face another day.
What is... is. We do what we can to save
the world from tragedy. Great poem.
The truth will set you free...and poetry
will give you the courage to carry on.
truly... Pat

Pat, you have such a kind, compassionate soul. Thank you for this lovely review. Lydi**
Yes Lydi, the very act of denial confirms understanding...
I could see your gentle smile and calm nodding much like the buttercups you describe fluttering in the breeze of "what just is."
Well penned.

somehow, oddly enough, whispers to me. lately i've been thinking, very much concerned with the verb "be" and all of its forms. "of what just is" smacked me, abruptly. "just is" in particular. am... i think therefore i am... be, now, is, now, exist, now. now. now. now... and it's gone...

Thank you for your wonderful review. Lydi**
I was immediately drawn in by the lines "Snuffed out by shadows/The sun retreats to parts unknown." Such a powerful image, and whether it's symbolic or not, it tells a great little story.

Personally, I enjoy poetry the best that's open to many interpretations - such is this poem! Wonderful use of language and rhythm - I look forward to reading more!

As long as you enjoyed the read, that is what matters.
I can envision the scene, on a mountain side or along a stream,
words whispered in the night, somehow, disjointed, they take flight.

Yes, they do: Understand.....
