They Understand

They Understand

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

Art by Big Bee courtesy of etsy.com

Snuffed out by shadows

the sun retreats to parts unknown

the breeze whispers a calm acceptance

of what just is

contrived formulations seem to emanate

even from the innocent buttercups

seemingly incoherent and disjointed rantings

are exhaled willy nilly by prickly cacti

I watch the scene nodding my head

yes, they understand

It's hard to put into words, but I relate to this very deeply. I need to listen to the breeze more often and accept what is, and try to steer clear of the disjointed rantings that many people have had to endure from me in the past. Yet there are elements of positivity that break through, the notion of understanding, even if it's from our environmental surroundings...it's not like you can always count on people for that understanding anyway haha Thankfully I find exceptions among my friends here. Nicely done Lydi :)

what a nice way to get lost in the spirit of nature. Although it is not easy with our selves as you say here. How very nice.

Thanks for your review, Tressa. Lydi**
you know me Lydi, I always try and get behind what "IS" and then understand those willy nilly cacti.. sometimes I come away with only those cacti pricklies on my hands.. sheeesh, guess I shouldn't have opened that box or eaten that apple... ;o) Mom always said I was born with this big WHY tatoo'd across my brain... Like a few others who reviewed, I thought that opening line was vibrant with ideas and colors (not to mention sun covering shadows) and led us on a merry chase to "understand"... what I do understand is that this is one of your "nice" poems Lydi.. ~~redzone

" ... seemingly incoherent and disjointed rantings are exhaled willy nilly by prickly cacti". That's cacti for you ... lacks any sense LOL. A very enjoyable and "sensory" write. Nicely done. ~Jim

they understand, if only humans could...

love this piece---

nature gets it...we only try...but if we try harder to understand and embrace what is around us...we may have a better chance....self-realization.

Lydi...each line of this poem touched me. I found myself nodding my head as well. Understanding is one of the most important things we can be given. Without we find ourselves adrift in a sea of melancholy. Wonderful words...

Acceptance and understanding are about as far apart as cacti and buttercups...yet, it still IS. I often nod my head in amazement at how you can take such a simple concept and pen such significance to it Lydikey. Always know it's going to be a pleasure when I visit your page.
