They Understand

They Understand

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

Art by Big Bee courtesy of etsy.com

Snuffed out by shadows

the sun retreats to parts unknown

the breeze whispers a calm acceptance

of what just is

contrived formulations seem to emanate

even from the innocent buttercups

seemingly incoherent and disjointed rantings

are exhaled willy nilly by prickly cacti

I watch the scene nodding my head

yes, they understand

It's hard to put into words, but I relate to this very deeply. I need to listen to the breeze more often and accept what is, and try to steer clear of the disjointed rantings that many people have had to endure from me in the past. Yet there are elements of positivity that break through, the notion of understanding, even if it's from our environmental surroundings...it's not like you can always count on people for that understanding anyway haha Thankfully I find exceptions among my friends here. Nicely done Lydi :)

So true my friend :)
Such a brilliantly imaginative piece of contemplation, who needs meditation when I can read this sublime, subliminal, piece of writing !

As creative as it is positively therapeutic, serene indeed Lydia !

If you are feeling serene after reading my words, I am thrilled, Tom. May the feeling last. Thank .. read more
We are controlled by the "givens" in life, therefore we must even more understand and appreciate that which we have the ability to change. We may choose to believe that certain aspects of life are set in stone when they are actually flowing in rivers of renewal.
Your thoughts are those that prompt me to appreciate both the given and that which is within my power to change, or attempt to change - when I have such a choice.
....love the image too as it reminds me of the "two sides" of life.

Thank you very much, Sheila....I always appreciate your wonderful reviews. Lydi**
What I like about this is where my head immediately went was how we think of all the other writers in here. It might not be about that, but that's where I went. As in, the most gentle of people come up with all these amazing eclectic mix of things, anyway, great write.

' .. contrived formulations seem to emanate ~ even from the innocent buttercups ~ seemingly incoherent and disjointed rantings ~ are exhaled willy nilly by prickly cacti.. '

thing is Nature accepts its condition and place in life, Human kind fight to win continuity because it feels it should. That sun's meant to show us the choice of coming and going, bright or dull, asleep or alert, depending on.. whatever, perhaps? A poem with meanings meant to be explored, quietly and carefully.

It's true....we fight reality and think we can change it. Nature knows acceptance is the only peace.. read more
Nature.... Just one word... 'Nature' understands it all

I pictured the poet standing, observing and nodding. Then I smiled.

Wonderful piece to waken up to this bright sunny Morning.
Thank you xx

Profound piece...an excellent first read of the morning for me.
...and I sometimes "overthink the room" but in such a brief space I hear/feel meanings stretching into the corners of life itself.

Thanks for the potent share, Lydi!

Oh yes Lydi...they certainly do. I could actually hear the cacti's ranting. I love looking at things through your eyes, through your poetry, they fill me with inspiration and spirit. Just lovely, my friend.
