Small Victory

Small Victory

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

Breathing in angst

till I’m puffed up by stress

like a helium balloon

even the Michelin man is more svelte

a tempest rents space in the teapot of my soul

no way to iron out the wrinkles in my psyche

waiting for the phone to ring

times movement is excruciatingly slow

        has the earth stopping rotating?

yet teardrops of morning dew

paint rainbows on the lawn

the beauty distracts me

ahhhhh

        breathing out

                small victory

There is nothing like being distracted by beauty....a rainbow of morning dew? oh yes! Enough to get by. This is simply gorgeous, my friend. Sometimes all we really need is that breath of fresh air...and everything's fine for a moment. Beautifully written, Lydi.

This is subtly sweet and beautiful. Small victories but be small, but you accomplish something. I enjoyed reading the appreciation of the little things. Thank you for sharing!

And thank you so much for your review. Lydi**
sometimes we can be having the worst days and then a little thing like a rainbow, or ray of sun can brighten it up...just a tad...definitely a small victory.

timely poem thinking of whose birthday it is today...there were victories back then in all of us being as one...but there is such a long way to go, and today those victories don't seem as large as they once did....

awwww, you are so sweet. no tips....just live life and write poetry!
today seems to be the day for psyche, angsty, "Michelin" bloated frustration, in short a day for poets to see tear-made rainbows and bluebell shaded valleys flowing from those word shadows in our minds and then compel our pens to talk with our notebooks.. while they may seem like small victories, they also spread our victories to everyone.. Lydi, perhaps another "small victory" is the"niceness of this poem. ~~~ redzone
