the perfect words

the perfect words

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

"november has started...the holidays are upon us"

"

photo by john benign “french tulips”

it seemed so simple

      i heard the thunder

            but the lightning

                  had not yet struck

all i had to do

was convey a shrug of honest emotion

and you’d see inside my dreams

     no matter where you were

you’d know the holidays

were when i needed you most

and realize i can’t even look at your photos

without feeling the tears well up

yes, i thought i held the perfect words

in the palm of my hand

     but in a split second

          of sad understanding

              i knew

all i held were scattered letters

                    and a heavy sigh

This breaks my heart. I don't know what to say to be of any help for what you're going through. But I am also hoping that upon writing this sincere poem, you have at least, ease some of the pain. Thank you for this part of you that you share to readers like me.

No words are perfect if one refuses to hear. Nice job, Lydi**.

How moving.

"yes, i thought i held the perfect words
in the palm of my hand
but in a split second
of sad understanding
i knew
all i held were scattered letters
and a heavy sigh"

"How can I let go of the memories of someone so dear?
How can I smile if the time reminds me this near?
The words I want to tell, could they hear them
Or shall I read once more these scattered letters
Only to make a sigh and shed my endless tears?"

The Holidays were assigned for us to give enough time to our beloved ones who passed away. But the truth is, everyday could be a time for remembering...and the Holidays only make the gloom deeper.

All the sadness expressed in the beauty of words. Thanks for the share.

You're welcome.
So sad. I envision someone awaiting their beloved only to find out they are not coming, after all. This could fit so many different scenarios.

Splendid and versatile, Lydi! If only "perfect words" existed...
