the perfect words

the perfect words

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

"november has started...the holidays are upon us"

it seemed so simple

      i heard the thunder

            but the lightning

                  had not yet struck

all i had to do

was convey a shrug of honest emotion

and you’d see inside my dreams

     no matter where you were

you’d know the holidays

were when i needed you most

and realize i can’t even look at your photos

without feeling the tears well up

yes, i thought i held the perfect words

in the palm of my hand

     but in a split second

          of sad understanding

              i knew

all i held were scattered letters

                    and a heavy sigh

This breaks my heart. I don't know what to say to be of any help for what you're going through. But I am also hoping that upon writing this sincere poem, you have at least, ease some of the pain. Thank you for this part of you that you share to readers like me.

Dear Lydi!

First of all, please accept a big hug from me as you enter this phase of the year that is so painful for you my friend! With all the laughter, planning, gift buying, sharing of time comes joy but in the shadows behind these packages of joy we find those of sadness, those filled with memories of ones we love who have passed on! The thought of them and what they meant to us is overwhelming at times as we know we can't bring them back, but we can remember them with the traditions they were a part of, and let them live through us! Never easy are these times, but please know that those who have passed are always in our hearts and spirits! Nobody can take that from us!

May you be comforted! May we here on The Cafe extend to you warmth and understanding, but most of all, an extra measure of love!! Your poem is beautiful! Those scattered letters should be part of a complete sentence!!

Hugs for you!
Sheila

For some feelings, there are no words at all - perfect or otherwise. Holidays are wonderful, festive, joyous, painful and heartbreaking times... A beautiful and sad piece, Lydi. With the holidays so near - I'm sending you a hug...

Holidays are a double edged sword. We love to be with our families but the heartache who are no longer there cast a pall when we realize their letters are scattered into the wind and we just don't feel quite whole.

You have captured my meaning so well, Blue. Thank you very much. Lydi***
How very very sad, Lydi, to see the holidays coming one and not being able to reach those you would most like around you at this time. Beautifully expresssed, your longing cries out from your page. I empathize completely. Beautifully written and your graphic is equally lovely.

Thank you very much, Joyce. I always appreciate your warm reviews. Lydi**
very well-written indeed.it was sad, emotional, bereaved, honest, eanest,.... the holidays serve us, as humans, agreat deal, as they help us remmemoriate the memories we did not feel for long, memories which some parts of our lives depended on. I do in holidays remember my beloved people who are no longer there, and I feel depricable, I feel incomplete. a great work well done.
