shadows on the wall

shadows on the wall

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

rainy day ranting

bold emissaries of stress
nails painted scarlet
strike a pose on the tip of my tongue
oh how they taunt
           political correctness be damned!
i prepare to empty all this built up venom
somewhere on someone
taking imaginary steps towards my opponent
who may or may not be a worthy adversary
               i hesitate

                      hearing

                         tick tock tick tock

yet the hands are frozen in place
so once again i meekly decide

to merely do battle with shadows on the wall

I love this! I feel like it perfectly describes that moment where we have arguments in our heads, with perfectly timed words for the things we should have said. All that stress pent up, it makes me think of realizing that the moment is gone, the time has passed, and there is no real argument anymore. Truly a new way to describe the idea of "shadowboxing" with a far more poetic outcome. Once again, I really enjoy your work!

shadows, windmills, beware Lydi is coming for ya... i see lighning and red painted fingers moving in for the final blows... I think I will just hide behind this bush until the storm is over.. ;0) Lydi, even in your..er.."venomous" moments(and I am sure they are few and far between) you say it soooo "nicely". --red(peeking out from the bush)zone

Clever! How can you fight with something like a shadow? Some things and even some people can bring us stressful moments. How can we deal with them? Something to ponder...

Ah, see you're smart you hold your tongue and "do battle with the shadows on the wall"! A really awesome poem.

Idiot me usually lays out a full blown frontal assault until I finally come to my senses and realize I should have kept my mouth shut. Well, I don't do that to customer service reps or people that I know don't have any way to fix whatever has gotten me steamed, but if I feel the person I am ready to unload on has a bit of responsibility in the matter - well, I am a trained combatant after all ;-) lol

I think I'll go practice watching the shadows now... if I'm lucky one of them might talk back to me :)

Now this was really cool Lydi. So many different images flash in my mind as I read. Like one of those holographic photos that changes as you move past it. Stress is evil but a necessary evil at times I think...wihtout stress we may never understand waht calm is. Watch out for those shadows...some of them hit back.
