shadows on the wall

shadows on the wall

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

rainy day ranting

"

bold emissaries of stress
nails painted scarlet
strike a pose on the tip of my tongue
oh how they taunt
           political correctness be damned!
i prepare to empty all this built up venom
somewhere on someone
taking imaginary steps towards my opponent
who may or may not be a worthy adversary
               i hesitate

                      hearing

                         tick tock tick tock

yet the hands are frozen in place
so once again i meekly decide

to merely do battle with shadows on the wall

I love this! I feel like it perfectly describes that moment where we have arguments in our heads, with perfectly timed words for the things we should have said. All that stress pent up, it makes me think of realizing that the moment is gone, the time has passed, and there is no real argument anymore. Truly a new way to describe the idea of "shadowboxing" with a far more poetic outcome. Once again, I really enjoy your work!

I love the character in this poem! And it made me smile because your description tells that it is a 'rainy day ranting'. I think it is an awesome rainy day to have written a beautiful peace such as this. Love it. :)

Poetry is my passion...indeed. Thank you for your review. Lydi**
Silence is not "golden", it just leads to higher blood pressure and needless cases of "something"-Rage when a person finally cracks. It becomes a lifelong habit and others'perceptions of you.

sigh,
"...hates the shadows,
is a shadow..."

Pent up frustration can be debilitating and injurious to our general well-being, always a great idea to vent a little and let of steam !

A metaphorical intrigue Lydia !

Poetry does help me let off steam, absolutely. Thanks for the review, Tom. Lydi**
Oh beware crossing paths when this feeling is upon us! I have bitten my tongue hard on occasion. Almost to the point of bleeding. I know this place well. Nicely done, Lydi. Angi~

Never expected you to be PC, you have too much sass and moxy to worry about that kind of thing. Those shadows should behave themselves, especially on rainy days, don't they realize how grand you are at scathing poetry?! Love this one Lydi....I have a few shadows of my own today, I need to shadow box away.

Oh, I have learned to be PC....too involved in politics not to be! :) Hope your shadows dissipate .. read more
Sometimes we create the shadows in our minds and the rest can be real. The point of every day is how we deal with them in this constant battle of life and self. A very philosophical and great write...Bravo
