true beauty

true beauty

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

“poetry reading” by Irene sheri courtesy of piersidegallery.com

the ragged span of time

scuffs the surface of my soul

a stop sign looms

at the seemingly casual corner

of roads not taken

like a naked rose

ever longing for its petals

intimately acquainted am i with minutes of loneliness

yet strangely unfamiliar with seconds of seclusion

i am here - - don’t you see?

teetering on the perimeter of poetry

wrapped in the gauze of anapestic analogies

where time obeys none but calliope

and the scuff marks of time

are considered true beauty

Ah, I love the exquisite language employed in this poem. This is the mark of an artist exercising her talent to the fullest extent. There are so many quotable lines, but the last two are really special. I'm sorry, I'm new to reviewing poetry, and I don't know how to give constructive criticism. All I know is that I love this poem! :)

Beautifully done. I would have never thought to use scuff marks like you did and it works wonderfully. I really like the way you structured this one as well.

This read and felt like something out of the classic book of poetry, my friend. Such a profoundly introspective look at life and time and the journey in between. Having a blast today catching up on your world class poetry :)

My sweet friend, I am humbled by all your reviews...and I thank you from my heart. Lydi**
Following in Frost's footsteps, the "scuff marks" of life and experience make everything else worthwhile. Love the language and imagery in this excellent poem. 100/100

It's hard for me to imagine you with any scuff marks Lydi - you are a butterfly -- fluttering through WC with wisdom and humor, love and romance and always elegance. Love this one my friend and the artwork is amazing too.
