the moon cries

the moon cries

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

memories envelop me at times..how i miss them

"

artwork by Steve Zazenski of allthatart on etsy.com

the immense quiet of morning

is interrupted only by the house creaking

through the white space of

not quite asleep

not quite awake

snippets of memory

from what seems like another lifetime

begin to play

such daredevils they are

balancing on the tightrope of emotion

my mind jumps from one place to another

the newspaper is delivered

the unmowed grass is high

what’s for dinner?

tease-taunt

he started it-no she did

tag you’re it

watch me run faster than the butterflies

my sandcastle is taller than yours

soon the whole day has vanished

eaten by those memories

and in the immense quiet of a starry night

the moon cries

What an incredible piece of writing, Lydi....the whole poem flashed past me like those snapshots of memories...evoking an achingly beautiful, bittersweet wistfulness. it is often in the 'immense quiet' of mornings and starry nights that we find ourselves soaked in fond memories...and you capture the inexpressible like a dream, my friend. just loved this one.

Lydia this is so wonderful. After reading it I felt like I read a novel or watched a movie. I could see each scene unfold so clearly in my minds eye. The pictures that you pick to go along with your writings are perfect. P.S. You are only the second person that I ever met named Lydia. The other one is my grand daughter.

When are in the throes of parenting and raising our children, there is much we take for granted and the time they are with us ends all too soon!! It is then we are left wanting more of them, to hear their laugh, to see them playing - the teasing and taunting you speak of, preparing their favorite snacks and meals, their many activities taking them here and there..........and then they are GONE! Suddenly, we yearn for the time when we were too busy to take another breath, and oh how immense the quiet of a starry night really becomes!!

The way you describe it all take me back to many days and nights I wish I could relive a thousand times over!

Excellent way of remembering Lydi- and yes, even crying with the moon!!

I'm. You are welcome...:)
This is amazing. There is so much to like about this poem but I do believe that the sandcastle line was the punch for me. It made me laugh. I love the form and how well it works with the hooks in the reading. Excellent work. Thanks for sharing your work.

A beautiful, brilliant fabric of thoughts woven into magnificence of bittersweet memories. How yesterdays ever call to the heart, Lydia.

Our yesterdays make us who we are today. Thank you, Craig. I appreciate your review. Lydi**
First things first; I love the artwork. Then the poem's so amazing, i like the way the mind jumps from one place to the other; from mail, through unmowed garss down do dinner. Then while at that, baam! -the immense quiet of night's here! I agree with this poem and I know that we can all identify with it on a level or another; while we embrace the dawn of a new day, we find ourselves in the short-lived embrace of dusk of the same day!

Thank you so much Lydi, I love it!

It is within these moments that I find my best inspirations. Mine come and go in that dream like state only to be forgotten in the day if not written down. Why do we remember so fondly the days when use to run torrid fast and loud?
