the moon cries

the moon cries

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

memories envelop me at times..how i miss them

"

artwork by Steve Zazenski of allthatart on etsy.com

the immense quiet of morning

is interrupted only by the house creaking

through the white space of

not quite asleep

not quite awake

snippets of memory

from what seems like another lifetime

begin to play

such daredevils they are

balancing on the tightrope of emotion

my mind jumps from one place to another

the newspaper is delivered

the unmowed grass is high

what’s for dinner?

tease-taunt

he started it-no she did

tag you’re it

watch me run faster than the butterflies

my sandcastle is taller than yours

soon the whole day has vanished

eaten by those memories

and in the immense quiet of a starry night

the moon cries

What an incredible piece of writing, Lydi....the whole poem flashed past me like those snapshots of memories...evoking an achingly beautiful, bittersweet wistfulness. it is often in the 'immense quiet' of mornings and starry nights that we find ourselves soaked in fond memories...and you capture the inexpressible like a dream, my friend. just loved this one.

Your work is always characterized by a unique, profound sensitivity that lures us into it whether we want to go there or not. A truly marvelous work, Lydi and I am not the most generous critic around.

Thank you for your review. Lydi*
I'd catch myself roaming around memory lane, too. I could spend half or the entire day reminiscing the good and the bad. I would sometimes think I was the ghost who haunted my past. I lost count on the number of times I stopped and recalled, and then another realization would just pop up— the current moment ignored. An addition to bad memories. The sun joined the moon in mourning over a loss.
