On A Rainbow

On A Rainbow

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

I hopped on a rainbow today
diamond dust flowed from the sky
for my viewing pleasure

Soft as a lover’s whisper
moist air kissed my cheek
I drank in the multi-colored universe
     overwhelmed
becoming one with those
who had journeyed here before me
and those who would travel here in the future
the scent of eternity intoxicated me

And even now
threads of starlight weave themselves
through the blinds
and a blanket of good thoughts covers me

Author's Note

Lydia Shutter
Tommorow is the Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur. Today I reflect on my life up until now. I drink in all that has happened in the past while stepping into the future.

I enjoyed it. Of course I love rainbows for many reasons: they give a positive feeling, rainbows are a symbolism of the various differences on one generalized topic..... ok going off the trail a bit. But most of all rainbows bring out positive reactions from people and the way you expressed that in this poem was remarkable.

Thank you very much for your review, Joyce! Lydi**
The poem conjures up pleasant perceptions that the rainbow's magnificent visual splendor, is made up of the omnipresent spirit of life that embraces all gone before and it's beauty reminds those on earth who view and marvel at its glorious appearance, of the sweet paradise that awaits them!

A wonderfully, imaginative poem Lydia and the detail in the graphic preceding your poem is stunning!

This is beautiful, Lydia; right from the first line - I hopped on a rainbow today..." That made me smile, and want to go on such a journey as well. A strong sense of positivity flows throughout. You have tapped into the right disposition for stepping into the future renewed! Happy Yom Kippur, Lydi!

stepping into the future on the colors of a rainbow... we cannot change the past, but learning from it we can change the future... your rainbow colors always leave me amazed Lydi. and that picture you found to embellish this poem reminds me of that SteppenWolf song, "Magic Carpet Ride" Hope your holidays were conforting as well as reflective... ~~redzone

"becoming one with those who had journeyed here before me and those who would travel here in the future" - an elegant description of a timeless, place-less place Lydia. Your pen is exquisite.
