There is a naked indecency
to the rain slicked night
cobblestones glisten
with a regalia
of unanswered questions
wispy clouds so terribly
fickle
flit from star to star
Draped in street lamp illumination
she watches the scene
remembering paths traveled
in the name of love paths now wearing the
misty raiment of love’s tears
But just as Aphrodite rose
from the white foam of the raging sea she too would rise
indeed, she would
answer all the questions
while walking on a path
of wild rose petals
never again feeling the sting
of the thorny briers
hidden there
I read this poem, not once but many times and gaining a different sense each time. Sometimes there was as sense of giving up and walking out into a rain of hopelessness. Yet again, I sensed the sense of the Phoenix, a soft arising. I do like your style, the short and penetrating style which I could never gain.
Thank you for allowing the read...Ron.

Oh those fickle clouds...yes love can be fickle too, but I love the bit of hope rising from the white foam of the raging sea...Stunning, stunning poetry my friend. Another masterpiece from your golden pen. :) Julie

The description grasp of your words and the amalgam they form never cease to amaze me and draw me into the picture you have painted with their deft placement Lydi. Your friend in words, Pete

Thank you once again, Pete. I have missed you. Lydi**
Love can be fickle, even when you think you have it nailed! But this is primarily a poem full of hope. Love will abide in the world, otherwise life itself will become meaningless. I love the idea of wispy clouds being fickle, and flitting from star to star...wonderful imagery! Well penned, Lydi! ~ Robert.

The set of this got me...and the rest just gave a gentle flow with the words...I liked the touch of Aphrodite in the scheme of things here...

Love is indeed fickle, Lydi, until the right one comes along and then you know you are safe. Lovely poetry and I never expect less from you. Have a wonderful day.
Wet cobbles always remind me of the 1960s spy-swap movies starring Michael Caine - they are dramatic and mysterious.
The girl/woman is like a spymaster I feel ready to swap her old for the new
Loved the marriage of image and poem Lydia
