Amor Falsum

How could I expect this to happen?
Never would I have believed that I've fallen,
A lass so shy, this I could never intend,
Let alone someone I call friend.

Could it be sweetness that's captured my heart,
Ne recollection of how this could start,
Whatever the reason for me to feel this way,
One stray feeling of love that led me astray.

All this time I've been praying,
Searching for a hint hidden in what you saying,
A person so good to me, one truly to depend,
Could I be you man, not just a friend?

Then reality broke the mirror of dream into pieces,
It came over me as I came to my senses,
That you'll belong to someone else,
Left alone with the reality I brought upon myself,

As long as I searched for a clue,
A reality that has left me feeling blue,
You're an amazing woman, would make any man lucky,
I would not interfere with any romance, your too lovely

You see me smiling and laughing,
Yet deep inside there's no place for denying,
I know I have to surrender and let go,
At least to cease the dream, oh the woe.

Still I'd be happy, this is true,
So long as you are too,
And let me say this for once, I Love you,
But I love you more than my desire, so our love can never be true.

I can feel the longing and the questioning in this piece. The ending, while sweet, also made my heart hurt a little. It is no easy feat to love someone, and to let them go and love someone else, or just to let them go for you know they will never be yours. Strong piece, and well written!
