A Friend

A Friend

A Poem by Lux in Tenebris
"

I write this poem knowing so many thinking they are alone, my title is not in Latin as normal as I want as many people as possible to hear that it takes only one moment of compassion to make a change

"
A heart that aches,
A smile that's fake.

Wounds that sting,
Phone that never rings.

A life empty, alone,
Emotionally solitary, nothing shown.

Tired of being the victim of shame,
Tagged in a group with a bad name.

Life at the edge of a blade,
Tempted to allow it to fade.

Tells everyone its fine, lying,
Deep down inside, dying.

Who would notice if gone,
Would they forget and carry on?

Gazes at the knife,
Could end the internal strife.

Sitting in silence,
Surrounded by painkillers, trapped by reliance.

Decides this is it, decides what's next
But at this pivotal moment, a text.

Only one message, but causes distraction,
From what seemed an inevitable action.

It's from a true friend,
Only one message, a godsend.

"I know your hurt, but you are strong",
"I'm here for you, you're in my heart, you belong"

All the emotions, anger, sorrow, fear,
Dissipates, now brought to tears.

One message changed fate,
All it took was a caring mate.

We all possess the ability to be that friend,
Be there for someone, prevent the end.

To show affection to those who are down,
It has the power, to turn their life around.

Hopeful words. :D Isn't it actually a wonderful feeling to have a friend who's willing to turn your world upside down whenever you feel like there's nothing right about it anymore? More often than not, we don't notice them because we're too caught up on our loneliness to care, but they're just always there. :) Simple, short but lovely and relatable poem.

Thank you for writing this and sharing it, it has a powerful message that as many people as possible should understand. I enjoyed reading it, especially the way you organized it into two line stanzas.
