You Said

You Said

A Poem by LuthienThalia

Hearing you say those words,

Those words that stopped my heart,

Those words that tore my world apart,

Those words that I never dreamed I’d hear you say.

With those simple words,

So few and small,

Neither big nor tall,

So short and bittersweet,

You tore my heart apart.

We all ignore how words can make us feel,

We choose to try to forget the power they hold over us,

But in that moment,

I couldn’t forget.

My breathing faltered,

My heart ached,

My mind raced.

With that simple statement,

I remembered all too vividly,

How words,

Though small and few,

Can make us feel.
