Writer's BlockA Poem by LuthienThaliaI wrote this back in middle school when I couldn't figure out what I wanted to write about. I'm quite pleased with it.
A page,
A blank canvas, stares down the writer. Unable to think clearly, the writer moves away. Striving, driving, Trying to achieve that One idea, that one thought, That one sentence that sparks the rest of the page. A look towards the window, thinking to clear the mind. A small blue bird bathing. A sparrowhawk flies past as the bluebird watches, Hesitantly, as the distance closes. Suddenly, action. A flurry of blue movement just before the collision. Talons out, twisting, falling, A break as they soar higher into the sky, Only to come together once again. Time passes, sparrowhawk chased off by triumphant bluebird. Frantic, the writer returns to his page. Battles waging in his mind's eye, Waiting to be put on the page. Names bestowed, ages given, sides chosen. Words fill sheets of paper as the writer's sudden inspiration continues. Passion, precision, certainty. As the writer sits back, just for a moment, the ideas slip, Like grains of sand from his fingers. Now at a loss, The writer waits, Hopes, For more inspiration as the words sputter to a halt. Finally, Left in the darkness until the light of a new dawning arrives.
