Enigmatic Peripatetic

Enigmatic Peripatetic

A Poem by Rev. David J. Schreffler
"

On the road with Jesus

"
An Enigmatic peripatetic
walking along the road,
He has come to seek what is pathetic
his story needs to be told.

Traversing on the road to Emmaus,
Unknown yet, oddly known;
He speaks of love, to Trav'lers like us
He's welcomed to their home.

He broke the Bread, and their eyes were opened,
Then vanished from their sight;
Their hearts were burning when scripture was spoken,
They will not sleep tonight.

An enigmatic peripatetic
has come into our church;
He looks not like us -- he seems pathetic,
Many are left in a lurch.

What do we do -- this odd-looking fellow,
has come seeking some rest;
quick find the pastor, they surely will know
how we can serve him best.

Peripatetics, are we all -- bent necked
Travellers and mourners;
When will we learn that we're all pathetic,
Enigmatic sojourners.
