Shame

Shame

A Poem by Rev. David J. Schreffler
"

A Ditty to Justine Sacco, or "What has become of our society that we become gleeful at public shaming that is nothing more than group-think?"

"
When did we ' become so profane
That we ache to see ' public shame?
Are we living in ' such a place
Where people cheer ' the falls from Grace?
Does anyone think ' the right to shame,
Belongs to those ' who have that claim?
We need the right ' to live our lives
Without the fear ' of Twitter spies?
Hand in hand ' we travel this road
Together we must ' bear this load -
End the blood-lust ' or soon surmise
Your hate will be ' your own demise.
Shame on you ' for loving the game,
Of trolling for ' the chance to shame.

I really like this. It's an old, universal moral teaching, but you've brought in new life with your references to 'Twitter' and 'trolling'. If I were to make any recommendations I'd first ask for more of those nods to social media and the internet age The quotation marks around the word 'Twitter' could probably go too. you don't want to distance yourself from the content, it gives the impression that you may be out of touch. Great stuff, keep it up!
