Coming home

Coming home

A Poem by Abbi
"

Written last year for a competition in school. This poem got published in a young writers book.

"

Watching him leave and walking away,

I hold our picture close,

As tears run down my face.

Crossing my fingers and praying to god you’d come home safe.

But I know the chances are slim.

A month goes by and no letter,

I am thankful.

Next door I hear cries and shouting.

Her husband isn’t coming home.

Another month goes by and a letter comes,

My hands begin to shake.

‘ I love you’ is all I take in.

As I fall to my knees and cry,

I tell my children,

Daddy isn’t coming home.

Absolutely amazing, and very well written. This was written very well, and it draws the reader to continue their exploration of your words. I was reminded of a movie I saw where women would stand by, and await word if their husbands were coming home from a war. Great job.
