Chapter Seven

Ashlee has just found out she is pregnant and is discussing it with Tyler.

I’m sitting in the car with Tyler silent; she’s playing with a ring on her finger.

 

“What are you going to do?” She asks me seriously.

 

I think for a minute.

 

“I’m going to have it.” I state.

 

Tyler nodded “are you going to…keep it?”

 

I shake my head “I don’t know, I’m not ready but at the same time I don’t think I can give it away. I think it would be really hard. It would be the worst going to the hospital to have the baby and coming home empty handed.”

 

I look down as tears start to form in my eyes and before I know it I’m crying hard.

 

“Ashlee, It’s going to be ok, you will be all right.”

 

“Tyler, it’s not ok, I’m pregnant. Since when has being pregnant in high school been Ok?! By the time we graduate I’ll already be huge!”

 

“Ash...” She interrupts me gently. “I think by the time we graduate you will be nine months… Or you will have already had it.

 

“I-I don’t know how far I am.. I mean I’m a week late but I can’t do the math… I always sucked at math.” I whimper.

 

She slowly nodded. “That’s why you need to go to the doctors.”

 

“Is that what I should do first?” I asked. “Or do I tell my parents and then Dallas, or do I tell Dallas first?”

 

“I think you should tell Dallas first, I mean it is between you and him… you are the parents.”

 

I swallowed hard. Parent…that’s the word that set me off. And then another word, mother.

 

“Let’s go to a walk in clinic.” I told Tyler.

 

“Ashlee it’s in the evening the doctors probably want to get out of there.”

 

“I don’t care!” I cried. “I Need a doctor and I need to see one now!”
