Chapter Five

Ashlee gets Tyler to come to the drug store with her so that she can get a pregnancy test.

 

Tyler and I are at a drug store out of town. I know way too many people that work at the drug stores in town. Tyler looks fascinated by test choices there are.

 

“What brand do you want?” She asks me.

 

“I’m not exactly sure.” I reply.

 

“Get digital, those tests will come out pretty clear.” She answers.

 

I swallow hard.

 

“But I’m not sure if I want clear results.”

 

“Ashlee, honey I’m sorry. The thing is that you are pregnant or your not.”

 

“I know. I’m just kind of scared of the answer.”

 

“That’s normal though Ashlee. You are seventeen and this is your graduating year, a baby is definitely not top on your list.”

 

“I just kind of feel like I already know the answer.”

 

Tyler grabbed a box off the shelf.

 

“Here, this one is digital.”

 

I took the box from her and started to head for the bathroom in the store.

 

“Tyler, can you come with me?”

 

She nodded and followed me into the bathroom. I closed the door behind us and she sat up on the sink. My hands were shaking as I pulled the test out of the box. I pulled down my skirt and sat on the toilet. I put the test between my legs and started to pee.
