Ripples

Ripples

A Poem by Lushan

Rocks render

ripples when             tossed

into pools or lakes.

Whether blue or black,

the surface is

disturbed,             changed,

by the ballistic

inclusion of

Earth in                 to water.

On quiet days in

Hallmark

meadows, when

the sun sparkles            off

the fractalised surface,

a soft smooth

                                     plop

sends sensuous

 un  du  lations

to gently stroke

the         slimy            sand.

Dark, still

pools that harbour

ghouls and murderous

others are other

wise injured,

torn,                          split,

by the violent,

unwelcome

                                splash

of a vaulted shard

of a long-cooled

volcano.

Stone in hand

I wonder…..

"Rocks render

" I love how you positioned the words here, like a stone being tossed, especially this first stanza where the word 'tossed' fits perfectly with where you positioned it. At first I wondered if this was too subtle, but it isn't, after a second read. The effects of something hard, solid, confident just carelessly tossed into something so easily moved (water). It made me think of the calloused and monsterous things that have happened to me personally, things that were probably done offhandedly, like throwing a rock in the water, but to a small, impressionable surface left big moving and nerve-racking ripples. And your mention of the volcano was great, the volcano that shapes the Earth, that made the rocks, the dark and smoldering pit, the Genesis of a person's Hurt, the Thing that made the rock that broke their "water"
