Over

Over

A Poem by Lushan

The sea is dark

I cannot separate water from air

around me

                          or in my lungs.

Salt coming in

                      salt coming out.

The roar so loud my screams are silent

                so I remain hidden

by proxy.

                               The storm is dark.

I cannot separate water from air

I cannot lift the scream to my mouth

my muscles drive the hurricane

                      there is no eye

within which to assert a hold.

                                   I am dark.

I cannot separate the water from air

I do not know where it

begins

                                      or ends

I can

not

.
