Liquid Courage

Liquid Courage

A Poem by Kenneth Compton
"

Yeah, I'll probably delete this nonsense in the morning.

"

A simple heat
Can not explain away the words and vision burning in my chest
Waiting to be expelled upon an unwanting and unyielding world

A simple chemical imbalance
Can not provide sufficient scapegoat for anger that strains
Against chains sunk into walls of etiquette and social decorum

It is not because I am drunk
That I want to spew these obscenities into the wind
Spilling venomous bile upon the inane and thoughtless

It is because I am disappointed
And the brew has merely loosened a tongue already coiled
Waiting to spit it's barbs upon an unwanting and unyielding world

the drink just allows us the freedom to say what we fear saying .. I liked this, it had power and the choice of language you used is sublime. I can feel the fire burning the need to express and be heard. Spilling venomous bile upon the inane and thoughtless.. such a GREAT line!
