These Majestic Americas

These Majestic Americas

A Poem by Kenneth Compton
"

In memory of Walt Whitman, that old courage teacher.

"

Sway, like the trees
When tribulation traverses your path
let it pass over your heart, and stir
but the leaves of conscious thought

Stand, like the mountain
unmovable mask of resolve before the fear inherent,
in any journey of consequence
Immutable Mountain be, on any journey of consequence

Flow, like the river
running, racing, rapid over the obstacles of this twisted runnel of life
Be water in the mouth of your foe
Fluid, slipping from the mouth of your foe

Be all these things, in these Majestic Americas
She teaches us our purposes
in her trees, in her mountains, and
in her rivers

This is beautiful, I spent some time in Yosemite many years ago and this rekindled the memories of this so thank you for that.

Walt Whitman is forever in my heart, his works, along with Plath, are the most inspirational to me. I can tell you are channeling him here, a great write.

what a great tribute to our beautiful country, I love how you described the mountains, river and land. I love how you did this as a tribute to Whitman. I enjoyed your ability to show the grace in the trees as well. Lovely write
