Unwanted Friend

Unwanted Friend

A Chapter by Christy Andrews

Anxiety- an unwanted, unwelcomed friend that will never go away, and who follows me everywhere.

It's weird; You know that absolutely nothing wrong. You know that everything will work out, but no matter what, it sits there weighing you down with no reasoning.

At 16 years old I went to the hospital because I thought my panic attack turned into a heart attack. They gave me xanex and some sort of muscle relaxer to calm down before they sent me home with a paper that said I have high anxiety and acute depression and a prescription for the start up dose of xanex and a note to show my doctor so I could get a referral to a place in Worcester, Ma. It was that point where I realized how bad my anxiety was. Later I found out that my anxiety will always be there and I just have to find a way to deal with it. Whether that was through medication or some other means.

All it takes is a recurring thought, then my anxiety is off and running.
