Dance, HelenaA Poem by Luna LazarusNo.A corpse falls on velvet black slippers So graceful in death.
As the roses drop from those re-animated hands, A steady beat pushes in from the air Enticing the long-lost beauty to dance.
Slowly at first, The limbs stretch and bend Feeling out their limits; While behind closed lids, Something beyond this life dances, as well.
Coming slowly to full height, This forever-gone life teeters and catches itself In an un-earthly rhythm. . . So haunting.
While the mourners bow their heads in prayer, Snow-white and ice-cold hands graze delicately over The tops of lovers bodies, Flowing with the beat- So wonderfully.
Now the lovely interpretation of death Comes into it’s power Pushing and pulling the air around it Dancing ethereally down the church aisle… But a gasp- Falling into the casket, The dance dies Like beauty once did. © 2011 Luna LazarusAuthor's Note
