Same as before :/

Amarantha Johnson was dying.

She could feel it with every fibre of her being. She could taste it's metalic taste, see it's hazy light, smell it's acrid scent, feel it as she clutched her sister's too white hand, and hear it in the words, You have cancer

Except.... except, it wasn't Amarantha that the doctor said it to. It was Iris. Her twin sister.

Surely the world must be ending now, She thought, Surely this is all a terrible dream.

"Amara?" Iris called, voice weak. Amarantha snapped out of her shock and looked down at her sister's grey-tinged face. "I'll live through this, alright?"

And with that, Amarantha burst into tears.

Iris had been sick for months. Always complaining of a pain in her chest if she ran too much, having horrible coughing fits that left her wheezy and short of breath, but everyone knew she had asthma, everyone thought that was all it was.

Lately she had been losing weight and complaining of being tired all the time. They had assumed it was because of the pneumonia she had during the winter, still, they took her to the doctor.

And found Lung Cancer.

Oh Irish, I knew you were sick, She thought, I never thought it was this bad! We should have gotten it checked out sooner!

"Amara? Amara are you okay?" came Iris's hoarse voice. Amarantha looked at her sister and burst into a fresh wave of tears.

The twins were like night and day, fire and ice, they were nothing alike. Amarantha, who's name meant unfading, had long golden hair and greenish gold eyes. She was tall, skinny, and very shy.

Iris, who's name was of the Greek goddess of rainbows,  had long black hair, silver-grey eyes and was tall and also skinny, but spunky and full of attitude, life.

Except now her eyes were dull with fatigue, her hair was sticking to her neck and head, and looked nothing like life.

"Oh Irish, what are we going to do?!" Amarantha wailed, using her old nickname for Iris.

"Calm down Amara, the doc said she could cure it." Iris reasoned.

"Maybe. She said maybe! If it's not too big already! Oh Iris!" She sobbed, crumpling onto Iris's hospital bed.

Iris patted her sister's head awkwardly. "It'll be okay. I promise Amara, I'll get through it."

Amarantha was about to respond when she felt it. Him. The very man she loathed, and, incidentally, her sister's boyfriend. Jonas Jones. Not that anyone called him that. She had a feeling that he would kill anyone who called him that, so naturally she always did. He was called Bones.

I'm going to be sick! she thought.

Author's Note

Luna
Yeah, first chapter. PS: In the second Italic, Amara calls Iris, Irish. Note that this is NOT a mistake, Irish is Iris's nickname, and I thought it sounded more personal if that's what she called her in her thoughts.

I like the use of words. It describes how Amara feels: shocked. I'm curious about what's going to happen next
