The ultimate InvasionA Poem by Lumumba Adam NaroJust freeverse... felt I had to write this for a while now
The ultimate Invasion
At six I was fixated on greatness I thought to be a pilot, an engineer, a musician, an athlete, a doctor In college, I'd be the all star My imagination was the film of reality and my mind, the projector The dreams were beyond me Success was a certainty Not a maybe Imagination was the cushion on which my callous reality was put to rest Fast forward to twelve The pilot is checked into a shelf On greatness,my mind isn't as fixed As it was at six Reality is creeping out of the fantasy I met geography Ok seriously Like a phoenix rising from the ashes of my delusions Reality emerged. It was contrary to my premeditated vision of establishing a path to the ultimate destination I started getting succumbed by thoughts of settling for average My dreams of being erudite and high were substituted for simply getting by. Alas I'm eighteen Twelve years have been Since I had those naive dreams Doctor, engineer, pilot, scholar I've come to learn things aren't as they seem And college, that's now a fading dream Forget the concept of "thrive" I'm now simply trying to survive My six year old self would probably be ashamed Yet there is no one to blame The wrath of reality is upon me It's finally defeated my imagination It's finally taken over my mind The ultimate invasion They say "you're your experiences" To me there is nothing more soul drowning than this statement. Coz if so, then I'm disappointment , I'm failure, I'm the stop sign at the pavement, because like the sign I've brought my aspirations to a halt. I'm unachieved dreams, I'm dead visions. I'm the first slice of bread from the loaf that experiences rejection. I'm a subject A subject of the ultimate invasion. Lumumba Adam © 2018 © 2018 Lumumba Adam Naro |
