Chapter 1

Chapter 1

A Chapter by Elysa Kristen Lavelle

Rumors says there was a ghost in class J1 I - My class. They say every student who goes into that class, will be cursed by the ghost of Samantha. Some will die privately, some will die publicly; some will die in pain, some will die in peace. Only some lucky ones survived and no one can transfer classes. I’ve dreamed of my death every night. Different ways of dying and different kinds of pain.

"Christie! Come down for breakfast!" My mom is screaming again. I looked at my clock. 7a.m.! Class starts at 7.30a.m.! I will never get to class on time if I eat breakfast! I cannot be late on my first day of school!

I tied my hair up as quickly as possible, grabbed my bag and ran out my room. We live in a condominium so we usually use lifts to go down but I use the stairs " It’s faster down.

I ran as fast as I could to my new secondary school - R.S Middle School. Weird school name I must admit... Anyways, I arrived at the front gate 5 minutes before class starts. I took a minute outside the school catching my breath and resting just for a while. After catching some breath, I walked normally into school and find my class as quick as possible. It took me about 15 minutes to find my class but I finally found it. Who knew it would be at the end. I stood at the door thinking bout how I'm going to approach everyone when going in. I took a deep breath. Closed my eyes for a few second, reached for the door knob, turned it and open it. I expected everyone will be staring at me since non of my friends from my primary school is in the same class as me. And I probably don't know anyone there so What I expected was a billion eyes staring at me as I walked pass few people finding a seat. But when I open the door, it wasn't what I expected. No one noticed me going into the class. Everyone was surrounding the white board gossiping about something. I found a spot at the right end corner of the class - I like being alone. I couldn't help being the only one sitting down while everyone is gathering around the white board. So I stood up and walk towards the crowd. I tried squeezing into the crowd to see what's going on. When I finally made it to the front, words was written on the white board. Red marker. It didn't seemed like it was written with a marker pen. Instead, it was written with blood. It signed by the name, Samantha. It says :

Welcome to your Death students of J1 I!

For a moment there the words paralyzed me. I couldn't move and I didn't know what to do. My whole body was shaking and I felt like I was about to collapse. After standing there for a while, I moved back slowly - I didn't want to hit anyone by accident. I went back to my seat and sat down thinking about the words on the board. Some students tried rubbing it with some water or some soap and rubbed it with a cloth or some newspaper and it worked. They didn't want the teacher to know such thing happened especially on the first they. They hoped the teacher won't know anything about it but the teacher does. All teachers of the school does. They just don't want to scare the students especially because it's their first year. Teacher starting marking attendance. I sat there still thinking about the words. It kept popping out of my head. Welcome to your Death students of J1 I! Suddenly I heard a guy's voice calling out my name.

"Christie! Christie Mitchell!"

I quickly raised my hand and shouted out, 'Here!' It'll be embarrassing to be marked as absent on the first day. Everyone was wearing the same shirt. White with a school logo on the upper left. Boys wears their long blue pants and of course for girls, we'll wear long blue skirt. I looked through the windows in front of me and day dreamed. A song was going on in my head. Payphone by Maroon 5. It was my boyfriend's favorite singer.

As teacher was teaching, I was sort of day dreaming... I tilted my to the left where there are windows. There was another building outside. A building with lots of windows. I stared into one of the windows trying to see what was in there.

I thought I was just imagining because I saw a head being hung up there... just a head. No body. Just a head with long hairs covering up the face.

I stared at it for a second until I heard every saying out loud, "Stand up! Good bye teacher! Thank you teacher!" That's what they always say before teacher leaving. And it was already recess.

I continues staring through that window thinking about what I saw. It wasn't there anymore. It disappeared! I kept staring for a few minutes and suddenly heard someone calling me. I turned my head to the right and saw a boy poking my shoulder and calling out my name.

"Oh hey sorry I didn't see you there..." I said in a rather humiliated voice.

"That's okay. What were you staring at? You look curious about what's in there." The boy said.

"Nah it's nothing... Just thought I saw something..." I said.

"Oh well... I'm Jeremy. Jeremy Johnson. You're... Christie right?"

"Yeah I'm Christie. Christie Mitchell. Nice to meet you"

"Nice to meet you too. Hey you wanna go to the canteen together and get some snack? I'm starving!"

"Yeah let's go! My stomach is growling"

We walked to the canteen together and ate some noodles. We talked and ate together and I really enjoyed myself. I totally forgot all about the head that moment.

After eating, we went back to class together. On our way back, Jeremy asked me a shocking question.

"Did you see a head being hung? Was that the reason why you were day dreaming just now? Did you really see that? Can you see it too?"

I was so shocked I stopped walking and stared at him. I didn't move. I couldn't. Is just as if he paralyzed me.

"How... Did you... How..." I couldn't say what I wanted to say. I didn't even know what to say.

"I saw you looking out the window staring at the window on the building. I tried to look inside and see what you're looking at and I saw it. Are you planning on investigating about it?" He asked me. But by the look on his face, I can tell he wants to investigate.

"Yeah I was planning to but... Honestly, I'm bit scared..." I said to Jeremy softly beside his ear as I didn't want so much people knowing.

He patted my back softly and looked at me with a sweet smile on his face. For a moment there, he paralyzed me. My heart pumped harder and faster. I didn't know why was I like that. I've never experience before. He opened his mouth and said to me,

"I'll be with you. Don't worry"

I stared at him for a second. I stared at his face. How the dark sides turn lighter when the sunlight shines on him. His hair turns slightly brown and his glasses reflects the sunlight.

"Okay then, if you say so" I said to him returning a smile.

The school bell rang  and both of us ran as fast as we could back to class.
