Years of Reminiscence

Years of Reminiscence

A poem about memories.

Years of Reminiscence

My lucid memories shoot through my mind like a freight train at full speed.

Drinking red wine in Sicily, talking about writers in a London pub

Scratching my arm, watching the sun sink in New Mexico,

Hanging around backpackers in a hostel, sleeping, walking,

Watching foreign films, reading, eating creamy risotto,

Standing at a bus stop, looking at my watch,

Kissing exotic women, looking at people,

Road trips, boat trips, cold beer, brandy,

Talking about politics, watching T.V.

Stroking a skinny street cat in India,

Looking out of a plane window,

Washing my hair, eating duck,

Amazing nights, drinking tea,

The smell of garlic frying and

Waiting for life to

Begin.

My lucid memories shoot through my mind like a freight train at full speed.

Enjoyed this alot, It makes you think how fast life goes by, how quickly you cannot count the seconds and before you know it, it is over... People complain about how they want their life to start, when in reality it has already begun... well done, well done.

You write some of the most original work I've seen. You put a new beat on an old song, this is great writing. Thanks for sharing.

Quite a list you have here! :)
Now I've written a few poems belonging to the "down the memory lane" genre...but this is quite different from those...Most poems of that genre tend to be wistful, but yours is rather upbeat. Quite refreshing! Well done!

"Stroking a skinny street cat in India"
I've done that very often! :)
They aren't all skinny, mind you...

Interesting write!

Love this- sometimes those trips down memory lane are the just the thing we need. Sounds like yours was amazing :)

Quite the treasured memories of far-flung places. It's important to create memories, no matter how large or small. Live life fully and experience it NOW....what's the point in waiting? Loved it.

Thank you for taking me on this wonderful journey of yours. Places I only imagined, but never experienced. You filled the wanderlust that lives in me, but are afraid to indulge in. Through this I have. :)

This structure is uniquely done. It starts with more descriptive memories, and as we all remember them, then as our mind speeds up to spit them out, that was represented well also. I liked all the things you incorporated in this piece. Yes, memories can be a freight train at times and we are unable to catch one thought to hold before it continues with the next. Nice poem :)

So much accomplishment! Expressed in such a way, it makes me want to travel, well it adds fuel to the desire anyway.
I love it but here's just wisdom I have to send.... You are living life already never wait for it to begin, take with both hands charging tackle it if you will. But never, never waiting. This world never stand still.:)

I love the visual presentation of the poem and how it ties into the subject matter- it really lends a lot to the overall feel of the piece and drives the work forward even as the words seem almost jolted and chopped up by commas. I think the stream-of-consciouness style in which you present your ideas- an almost haphazard list that seems to read like a word association game- is very interesting and really conveys the idea of thoughts just ricocheting around in one's head. I think the relatively simple vocabulary works in this context. I also like the kind of percussive rhythm that you develop, especially around the middle of the triangle stanza.
