Our EndingA Chapter by Luke RizoDerick was on trial for his actions. Apparently, his father was a surgeon and had taught his son how to operate on other beings. His license was suspended. This would explain why the police wouldn't believe it was just a bunch of high school miscreants. The job was too professional for it to have been children. Blake was transferred to a different school after his recovery in the hospital. He still gets bullied in school for missing an eye, but he has Jake to take care of him after school. I want to talk to Blake, I want to see him again, but I told him I'd give him time. I promised, but it's killing me everyday not being able to be with him. The group hasn't been the same without him, we all stopped hanging out like we used to. I can never see Blake's beautiful smile anymore. Jake is always busy running back and forth to Blake and everyone else. Daniel is rarely around anymore, and it's just so upsetting. Jake walked up to me, I guess he sensed how I was feeling, "hey Mallory, I need to tell you something," he says scratching the back of his head, "it's about Blake." That's when I knew something was very wrong, Jake never talks to me about Blake. We walked into an empty classroom at school and Jake checked twice to make sure there was no one around. "Listen Mal, I don't wanna hear any questions, alright?" Jake asked while reaching for my shoulder, but retreating. My stomach began to churn, "is something wrong?" "Mallory, seriously, no questions." "Okay, I'm sorry. I won't ask any questions." "Alright then, something happened and I need you to talk to Blake for me." He held my wrist, and caressed it with his thumb. There was no need for words to know what had happened. Jake wanted me to talk to Blake, self-harmer to self-harmer. But what am I supposed to say to him? After school, Jake and I walked to Blake's house. The house had graffiti on the door and one of the windows were broken. "I'm allowed to ask questions now, right?" Jake sighed, "get to it, Mal. I need you to stop him before it gets any worse." There I was again, in front of Blake's bedroom door. What should I say? "Go away, Mallory. I didn't ask you to come." Blake said bluntly. "How did you know I was here?" "I can see your shadow from under the door, now leave." I sat down leaning against his door frame. "I'll be out here when you feel ready to talk with me. I'll give you time, but I won't leave you alone." "Fine, stay out there then." "That's the plan, Blake." I sat there in place for hours. Just as I was about to give up all hope and leave, he opens the door and goes back to his bed. "Close the door behind you." I walk in and do as he wishes, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to sit by him so I just stay standing by the door. "Daniel is like a brother to you?" "Yea, why? Have you seen him lately? He just kind of disappeared from me since the, um, the party." He smiles in disbelief, "I only ask because I thought you knew what he was up to." He hands me his phone to show me some messages. "Is this our Daniel? Why would he do this?" I sat next to him and held his arm, "is this why you did what you did?" Blake sighs before answering, "Mal, my life sucks. I get bullied at school, my family is afraid of me, the people I once thought were my friends have turned against me, my dad left the moment I was born, and everyone hates me. That's why I did it. No one cares about me anyway." "That's not true, and you know it. If no one cared about you then Jake wouldn't have asked me to come here, and I wouldn't have stayed as long as I did." I lift his chin up to look him in the eye, "Blake, I love you, so so much." "I haven't heard those words in a very long time." He states with a tear in his eye as he places a hand on my chin. He brings me closer to him at the same time that he leans in, he looks me in the eyes almost as if he is asking for permission to kiss me. I then look at his lips and he looks at mine, and finally we kiss. Every atom in our bodies are screaming 'more, please something more,' but our minds said 'this is perfect, we don't need anything more.' The passion that coursed though our veins was more than enough to show that it was indeed love. That day, I stayed overnight and slept on the couch to make sure he'd be safe. As I slept in peace thinking everything would be fine tomorrow, Blake had different plans. He wrote a letter for his family, another one for Jake, and a last one for Mallory. He placed these letters by each person's side and went to the restroom where he laid in the empty tub and took his last breath. "She's gonna hate me after this." © 2020 Luke Rizo |
