Face to Face

Face to Face

A Poem by Luiza Greneholf

Standing, staring, face to face at last.

For the first time we’re separate, equals

You’ve morphed out of me like some gruelling exorcism

Just as a splinter under my skin –

Probably would’ve hurt less just to leave you there,

But in my heart I know it’s better to wrench you out…

Even if it’s just for the sake of this one moment

When I can look straight into those seductive eyes

And know that I have a real choice.

It’s not a case of your power over me, or my power over you

Not any more.

Because this time, the choice is finally

Mine.
