Waking Up

Waking Up

A Poem by Ally Baker

It seems befitting for you
To be both things for me --
The one who trapped me in ice
And the one who thaws me out.

My heart has been healing
While I live my life in a  coma.
I'm waking up, feeling again,
It's like nothing has changed.

But you seem to have moved on,
Left me to heal myself, and
Wake up with these raw, long
Sleeping feelings for a phantom.

Stumbling on legs long since used,
My path's direction wavers.
Things around you change
As you sleep in peaceful ice.

I could chase you, a phantom,
In hopes of resurrecting the past,
Or let you fade into the distance
And hold on to your "goodbye".

You envisioned the scene of solo healing, if you would like to add more spice to your poem, I guess that you could talk about not having a proper goodbye or a fade goodbye to hold on.

Moving on seems so simple for some people and harder for others... when we watch a loved one move on before us it deepens the break up wound.
