I Know the Truth

I Know the Truth

A Poem by Ally Baker

They always tell you that

If you let them go and they come

Back, they are yours forever and

If they don't, they never were.

But sometimes you are theirs

With every cell of your body

And every part of your soul

But they don't let you go.

You walk away, knowing that

They still hold your heart

Wondering if it's more painful

To be with or without them.

They let you go because they

Can't see what else they can do,

Putting all their hope into this

Old saying, knowing they messed up.

But when you don't go back to them,

Do they honestly believe that you

Were never their's to begin with,

Even though you know you still are?

What are you supposed to do when

They own every part of you, body and

Soul, heart and mind, but they wronged

You so horribly, you cannot stay with them?

Being let go, yet still belonging to them,

Is such a painful knowledge to bear,

Especially when they cannot even begin

To fathom the truth of it, believing in lies.

Yes, the say if you let someone go and

They come back, they are yours forever,

And if they don't, they never were.

But I... I unfortunately know the truth.

I really liked this and it's hard to believe that you haven't gotten a review by anyone. I love how it's a spin on the phrase, " If you love somthing you sound let it go and if it coms back its yours forever if not it never was yours in the first place" And the ending is probably the best part, the poem as a whole was very well written and thoughtful. Nice job, keep it up.
