Dare I Take A Chance?

It's been days, weeks...getting to

The point where it has been months

Since that awful day that dragged on,

My heart shattering to pieces

 

I've yet to put them together again,

Wondering if I should even make the effort,

When history is likely to repeat itself.

But what if it doesn't?

 

Dare I take the risk that is named Love?

Dare I let someone that close to me?

Dare I open myself up and give away

The power to destory what I am?

 

What happens to an abused soul

When it re-opens itself to that deadly risk

And takes a chance at true happiness,

Only to discover a false promise of forever?

 

Dare I take a chance on my sanity?

Dare I take a chance of being crushed?

Dare I take a chance on being destroyed?
