ExpectancyA Poem by Ally BakerWe all expect things from others Ranging in their seriousness But the disappointment or guilt (Depending on who are in the situation) Is the same, never changing
So with these feelings engraved Into our systems as Human Nature It is but natural that we also Have that one primal instinct, telling us To do everything, anything, to avoid it.
So when she expected him to love her He said he did and went through The motions of a man in love. Expectations met, doubts put away, She believed the lie he fed her.
With her expectation met, it was his turn. He expected her to give him something That she held so dear, never before Shared with another. He repeated her Expectation: "I love you" and his was met.
She was unsure, but what's done is done. She cried herself to sleep at night. Thinking about his expectation of her That only arose from hers of him, She drifted to sleep in tears of expectancy.
His expectations grow and grow Until she cannot handle it any longer. She tells him how she feels, ends it. She expected him to be upset, and he was. He raged. She awoke in an ambulance.
While laying in that hopsital bed, Bones set in casts, bruises fading, A doctor walked in slowly, carrying a chart. A sad, remorseful look was upon her weary face. "Honey, we found something in our tests."
The doctor talked to her, told her the results Found in those tests. The doctor asked When the last time her monthly visitor Had been around. She sobbed into her hands As she realized the full truth of the situation.
One expectancy created from another, And another still, this one greater Than either of its suitors. For this one will bring a life into This world that's filled with expectations.
We all expect things from others, Even from ourselves, but those Lead to other expectations, everyone Always expectingm hoping that others can Give them what they want without consequence
When the truth is they can't, they never can. © 2010 Ally BakerReviews
